Archaeology Lecture Series
Communicating

effectively

with

students.

OUTLINE:  Arcaeon has worked on developing a comprehensive lecture-series showcased at Waverley College and various community organisations since 2007. This educational series includes study packs and examples of the use of 3D in archaeology. Each lecture covers the core areas of archaeological study and career advice for students.

First showcased at Waverley College in 2006 and subsequently at non-profit cultural events for the Veneto Youth Association of NSW and Aristotelis, it is wholly developed by Arcaeon Design Studio.

The series is lectured by the founders of Arcaeon, Daniel de Lafoix and Tanya Doulaveras, both archaeologist Honours alumni from the University of Sydney.

MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS:  Our interactive presentations incorporate all the excitement of digital archaeology and research. Contact us today to find out how your school can experience this fantastic lecture package.

Topic Areas: The lecture is divided into discussions on the fields of Archaeology and Ancient History, and Areas of Expertise. These include Excavations, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), 3D Reconstruction and Underwater Archaeology. Daniel and Tanya draw upon their experiences with field archaeology to discuss excavations and workshops conducted in Italy and France.

Study Packs: Hand outs are provided to students attending the lecture in the form of booklets covering the presentation. Additional worksheets on specific topic areas are tailoured to the syllabus being used at each school.

3D Computer Graphics: Using the latest technology in 3D modelling and animation, the lecture features a number of 3D environments, models and reconstructions. Additionally, we explain the use of 3D geographical maps with archaeological data.

Underwater Archaeology: One of our more popular segments amongst students, maritime archaeology is covered in the lecture series using topics of mythological interest, such as Atlantis, to steer student discussions on underwater excavations worldwide.

Artefacts and Antiquities: Museums, photos, 3D and virtual reconstructions of environments are used to draw attention to the essence of archaeological study: the actual artefacts. Students enjoy the fascinating stories behind the world's greatest discoveries.

EXCAVATIONS:  Arcaeon's founders are always ready to roll up their sleeves and pick up a trowel. Our experience ranges from digs in Lazio with the Gruppi Archeologici d'Italia to scuba-diving in Corsica.

These have included excavations in Tuscania (Viterbo, Italy), workshops in Pyrgi (Tarquinia, Italy) and diving off the coast of Calvi (Corsica, France).

3d archaeological reconstructions

Iberian deity

A 4th-century BC stone bust known as the "Lady of Elx" was chosen as the subject matter for this 3D modelling project.

A vast number of reference images were used in order to duplicate the intricate details on the deity's head-dress.

Modelled, textured and rendered in Autodesk® Maya, the piece forms part of a series of models based on archaeological subject matters we are exploring for the lectures.

Roman Pantheon

One of the most wondrous constructions of the ancient world, animations, fly-throughs and wire-frame studies of the Pantheon make for interesting material in our lectures.

Also developed in Maya, the Pantheon will form part of a segment on comparisons with the construction of the Parthenon in Athens and other structures in Greco-Roman Antiquity.

design across dimensions

When you need to turn your concept into a photo-realistic 3D perspective model, you can rely on our unique expertise to create it for you. From floor plans and elevations we can produce everything from static designs to animated "fly-throughs".

For museums and universities we provide historic re-creations of architectural and archaeological sites.

Fill out this form for a quote on your 3D visualisation project and we'll get in touch with an appraisal.
